Casti Connubii

Casti Connubii (On Christian Marriage) is the 1930 encyclical of Pope Pius XI on the nature and dignity of Christian marriage, the advantages and benefits it brings to the family and to human society, and the errors and vices of the age that are opposed to conjugal union. Building on Leo XIII’s Arcanum, the Holy Father teaches that matrimony was instituted by God, not by man, and that its laws cannot be subject to any human decree or contrary pact even of the spouses themselves.
