Host parties and gatherings
This is a great—and liturgically appropriate time of year—to host frequent parties and gatherings with friends and families.
Catholics are basking in the afterglow of Christmas and anticipating the great fast of Lent. All devotions and activities for this time of year reflect this general sentiment.
Remember not to play or celebrate to excess. The spirit that we should bring to this time should be fun and joyful, like new children contentedly playing with their new gifts on Christmas morning under the Christmas tree. Gratitude and a continual remembrance of the spiritual gifts that God has shared with us can go a long way!
Folk Dancing
Consider organizing a parish group to learn one folk dance per week from your ethnic traditions and host weekly gatherings in your parish social hall to share what you learn with a broader audience.
Learn songs and hymns
This is an excellent time of year to get your chops up for some singing. Commit to learning a new instrument or to learning a new folk song and/or hymn weekly.
Play some games!
Set aside nightly time for playing games and learning new ones with loved ones. A simple deck of cards is easy and accessible to everyone and offers endless variations of games that the entire family can enjoy!
