In 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three humble shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, with a message that has been reverberating throughout the Church and the world to this day.
What was Our Lady’s message, and how exactly does it relate to you now?
Whereas most books about Fatima focus on debates over the “secrets” or questions about the consecration of Russia, this spiritual gem invites you to encounter something far deeper.
This book will reveal to you the spiritual heart of Fatima and help you incorporate it into the rhythms of your daily life.
Through the angel’s visits and Mary’s words to them, Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia were drawn into an extraordinary life of prayer, sacrifice, and devotion. Their eager response to Heaven’s call transformed their ordinary lives into holy ones, offering a powerful witness for how we should approach life in our own time.
As you journey with Our Lady and the children of Fatima, you will discover:
- The mission Our Lady entrusted to the Fatima seers-and how it continues and applies to us today
- What the heart of Fatima really is and how best to live out a devotion to Mary’s Immaculate Heart
- A simple way to pray to grow in deeper union with Our Lord
- Why reparation and sacrifice are essential for the conversion of souls
- The powerful connection between Eucharistic Adoration and the Fatima message
- How their vision of Hell spurred the Fatima seers to pray and offer mortifications for sinners
You will also learn about the hidden struggles and sufferings that the seers experienced in reparation to Our Lord and for souls – in body, mind, heart, and soul – which may relate to your own.
These ordinary Catholic children reached a profound contemplative union with the Holy Trinity – a union that is open to you as well if you begin to glimpse what was happening in their hearts and how they were led into an intimate relationship with the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
As you read the story of their lives, you will encounter a grace that draws you into deeper union with the Lord and awakens in you a greater desire for holiness. And as you reflect on Mary’s words to the children, you may begin to sense that they are spoken to your heart as well.

“Ralph Martin is a man of uncommon clarity in the midst of the storms of our time. In this exceptional work, he draws our attention, in the context of the battles we face today, to the extraordinary messages offered through the heart of our Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima. Read, listen, pray, and you will be inspired, convicted, and drawn more deeply into the heart of God.”

“In this timely book, Dr. Ralph Martin shows how the core message of Fatima is very much needed today. Drawing upon Fatima in Lucia’s own words, Martin gets to the heart of the Fatima message, which is ‘the heart of Mary in her profound union with God.’ This is a heart that reveals to the three shepherd children the reality of Hell, Purgatory, and the need for ‘total surrender to the Lord’s plan for the salvation of souls.’ This plan includes an appeal for repentance along with prayers and sacrifices for the conversion of sinners."

“Hearts Beating as One is an inspiring and instructive explanation of Mother Mary’s apparitions at Fatima, and its application for the Church today. This serves as an important primer for those who know little about Fatima and a call to action for those who are familiar with its miraculous signs and powerful messages.”

“In his latest book, which wonderfully lays out the heart of the Fatima message, Dr. Ralph Martin recounts, in a fresh new way, the earnest hearts of the three young visionaries at Fatima, who answered in short order Mary’s ‘request for total surrender to the Lord’s plan for the salvation of souls and complete assent to what divine Revelation shows us about the consequences of unrepented sin.’ If we are to avert the wrath to come, the world simply must return to God. To this end, we must imitate these children, whose sacrifices freely undertaken for the love of Jesus and Mary show the way back to God for others to follow.”

“This short gem of a book, a fruit of Dr. Ralph Martin’s long attachment to the stunning events at Fatima in 1917, is a rare work of love. Relying extensively on the memoir of the third seer, the Carmelite Sister Lucia, O.C.D., and interspersing insight from additional sources, Dr. Martin intensifies the great appeal of Fatima with his own very personal and profound commentary. I have read no book on Fatima like this—no one will walk away unaffected. Greater love for Mary, the importance of prayer and sacrifice for souls, and a realization of the current serious moment in the Church’s history, await the reader.”

“Ralph Martin’s pen unlocks the heart of Fatima’s angelic and Marian apparitions. Through childlike repentance and trust, the Virgin leads us into the Divine Mercy of her Son, where, by the Holy Spirit, we are drawn into the inexhaustible depths of the Father’s love through the prayer of the heart. The mystery of Fatima is participation in the divine life itself: the Father’s heart, revealed in the Sacred Heart of Christ and communicated through the maternal mediation of the Virgin, who continues to form Christ within His people.”
