About Theodore Maynard

Though he thought of himself mainly as a poet, Theodore Maynard (1890-1956) is best remembered for his historical writings, especially those on American Catholicism. The son of British Protestant missionaries, he established himself as a writer in England, befriending G. K. Chesterton and Hilaire Belloc, before moving to the United States. His best-known works are De Soto and the Conquistadores, The Story of American Catholicism, and Too Small a World.
