There is a treasure trove of riches in the ancient Roman liturgy of the Church. The feasts and fasts, ember days, rogation days, and octaves make for a rising and falling as in the Gregorian Chant. Yet, we have forgotten so much, and it is difficult to recover these traditions in our age of noise and ugliness.

As a small offering to help families, and children especially, see sacred time illuminated in a beautiful way, Michaela Harrison and her family have worked together to make a set of fully illustrated calendars that follow the traditional liturgical calendar. These calendars present time not according to the months, but according to the different periods of the liturgical year.

The time after Pentecost starts out in brilliant colors. You will journey through Michaelmas and Embertide while engaging with stunning classical artwork featuring images of Jesus, Mary, and the saints. You’ll see biblical miracles come alive and learn about Our Lady’s role in the victory at Lepanto. You’ll encounter awe-inspiring architecture featuring Christ the King bounded by the Holy Souls in Purgatory, the saints in Heaven, and St. Michael the Archangel holding the scales of judgment.

Continue through each week after Pentecost and notice how the Sunday readings connect with the Feast days of each week. These arrangements will differ each year, and present new combinations to ponder within the liturgy. Also, for the first time, the traditional octaves are marked on the appropriate feasts. The time after Pentecost is not at all empty. Indeed, each week is packed with meaning and theology, so come and see!

Each day the calendars feature a Saint, feast, or feria of that day – including the commemorated saints featured in niches or coves. Themes from the breviary and from Dom Gueranger's The Liturgical Year are woven throughout the imagery for each week. All of the information contained in the genius of the liturgy is there for you to see– the fast days and commemorations, the classes of feasts, the color of the priest's vestments, and now, the traditional octaves – all available at a glance. The images of the saints are taken from medieval and classical art traditions and are represented together in such a way as to show the communion of the saints in our daily lives. With these calendars on the wall, you will never forget a saint’s feast day again! These calendars are also a wonderful teaching aid to be used in homes, schools and anywhere the faith is taught.

Beautiful artwork keeps our family grounded in the liturgical calendar
The truly beautiful artwork of this calendar helps our family deepen our connection to the liturgy. Each day is special, and each Sunday is *extra* special. We are excited to find the depiction of the gospel, saints feast days, and discover so many other interesting treasures hidden throughout our Catholic faith. What we love about this calendar is how many little treasures are layered into the artwork to help us learn our Catholic faith.

Traditional Liturgical Year Calendar
This is LOVELY. All who see it in our home, be they Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, or Baha'i, comment on the beauty of the artwork. We attend the Traditional Latin Mass and this is PERFECT for following the Liturgical Year. We've searched high and low for something like this for our home, but until now we haven't found anything like it for the TLM. Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter posters (so far) have delighted us. We will continue to support this project as long as we can!

Beautiful, Rich, Elaborate
I love this calendar for several reasons. First, it's beautiful. It's more like art than it is a calendar, especially if you get the wooden frame that Sophia sells to match it. There is SO MUCH detail embedded into every aspect of this calendar. Second, it makes the traditional calendar and the Latin Mass more accessible and intuitive. Sophia has been doing a great job in this area lately, between this calendar and the Benedictus booklets. "Treasure and Tradition" by Lisa Bergman and the YouTube documentary "Mass of the Ages" would also go great with this. I disagree with the other reviewer who said this could easily have been designed as a forever calendar. Almost everything changes from year to year (the dates of Lent and Easter, the day of the week Christmas is on, etc.) so I don't know how you'd do it. If someone is looking for a cheaper traditional calendar, the FSSP and Angelus Press both make nice, simpler ones. But I like this calendar better because it turns the liturgical year into a much richer, more informative, more colorful experience than those ones do. I bought one of these for myself a few months ago and I'm now buying another one for my dad. For me, I love being immersed in the beauty and richness of the liturgical year. I'm getting it for my dad because it's something fun and easy for him to do each day.

Beautiful and Stunning, HOWEVER...
They are truly stunning calendars! I received a sample at the parish where I work and I was blown away by the beauty and majesty of the design. They accurately capture the beauty of the liturgical calendar. HOWEVER, they were designed based on the "traditional" calendar (pre-1962 calendar) instead of the General Roman Calendar. The point of this product is to educate my children on the liturgical calendar. However, since the calendar does not match what they will see and hear at Mass, then it is defeating the purpose. If my family attended a Latin Mass parish each week, this would be amazing, but we do not. Hopefully a second edition will be printed based on the General Roman Calendar (and even better based on the calendar of the USCCB) but until then, I cannot purchase or use this product.

Beautiful, but be advised it is not the current calendar
We used this calendar through Advent and Christmas and thought it was beautiful. A really gorgeous way to present the liturgical calendar. I love all the symbolism embedded. However, as we tried to move through these feasts, I was disappointed to realize that this follows the "traditional" calendar, as in, the pre-1962 calendar. In the end, I decided it was too different from what we celebrate in our own Catholic church for it to be as useful as it is beautiful. It was too confusing for our kids. I appreciate that Sophia has since updated the description, as I wasn't even aware of this when I made the purchase. I also want to add that I did chat with the creators about this and they were lovely and gracious to talk to. It just doesn't work for us.
